The Deviance Model brings together the three components of deviance that are covered in the typical Introductory textbooks. The components of Crime, Mental Health and Alternative Sub-cultures are linked together through their connection to the accepted norms of society, but are distinguished from each other by two criteria; the willingness to accept or reject the goals off society and the willingness to accept or reject the methods society provides for attaining those goals. This model can be used to assess specific groups or individuals, and with the assistance of the 3 part model of society, to analyze change over time.
A method for teaching this conceptual model can be found in the section on Learning Labs.
